Collin Gibboney | IL - DUPAGE COUNTY

Nominated by Ed Gignac

In DuPage County we believe that to be Hunk of the Year it takes more than just being the best at your current role. It takes going the extra mile and doing even more for both our local franchise and the brand in general. Collin Gibboney has exceeded our expectations in this regard by constantly demonstrating his commitment to our four core values and the College Hunks Way. Collin started his HUNK journey as a Junior Wingman four years ago while he was a senior in high school. Like a fish to water, Collin’s exuberance and positive attitude helped him excel at all things HUNK. From day one he has always given his all to the organization. He was begging us to drive a truck from the time he started even though our insurance company wouldn’t cover him. He got his Class C license on his own to make sure he could drive even our 26’ truck once he was old enough. His dedication and drive brought him to his current role of Operations Specialist, but along the way, Collin eagerly picked up a bunch of additional responsibilities. Any task we put him on (and many he selected for himself), he embraced, such as readily accepting the challenge to learn the administrative side of the business and the responsibility for truck maintenance. His ability to motivate and support other HUNKS won him the responsibility of onboarding and training new hires. While learning to manage what had been his peers, Collin is/was always available and eager to help in any way possible and to share his knowledge with the team. He is deeply caring about the customers and always willing to take the extra steps to fulfill and delight not only the customers but just as important, the team as well. Collin continues to challenge himself and is not afraid to challenge us, as well. He is constantly bringing ideas and suggestions and will even challenge our decisions when he feels strongly. This summer Collin created, planned, and executed the first ever Chicagoland HUNK Olympics, which engaged area wide franchisees and was a lot of fun for everyone, including bystanders who wanted to join in! We are proud to have Collin on our team and celebrate him as the HUNK of the YEAR!

Nels Frederickson | MN - MINNEAPOLIS

Nominated by Skip Christiansen

Nels exemplifies leadership within College Hunks by always preaching our core values through teaching and coaching of our employees while always leading by example. Nels has successfully brought in a core group of young professionals, with a $0 Indeed spend, who represent College Hunks on and off the work field. Nels is always finding a way to better brand our organization, keeping the office culture a fun place to interact, building up our young professionals for future leadership positions, while always being empathetic/listening to what the crews’ need. A successful, cohesive team concept is something that's always been ingrained within Nels from day one. He was a successful 3-year starting NCAA quarterback in college (University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire) and continued coaching football within the local community as well as all his 6- and 4-year-old's sporting teams. Nels is also an on-call firefighter for the city of Lakeville, where he's been serving our community for more than nine years. If that wasn't enough, Nels is currently a PhD student at the University of Concordia - Wisconsin where he's planning to get his Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA). Nels will be writing his dissertation on the junk removal industry – a topic no other individual has ever written a doctoral dissertation about. I present to you the next HUNK of the year, Nels Fredrickson!!

Winston Johnson | VA – VIRGINIA BEACH

Nominated by Parke Atkinson

Winston has devoted his professional career to the CHHJ brand. Those that know Winston know that he leads by example. He is a quiet, humble leader that epitomizes how hard work truly pays off. A former collegiate athlete, Winston found himself in Atlanta, GA following a stint in arena football. It was here that Roger Panitch introduced Winston to the brand and all it stands for. Working his way through the ranks in Atlanta as a wingman, captain, then weekend manager, Winston was eventually named Operations Manager and found himself at the helm of one of the most tenured locations in the franchise system.

Being a family man, Winston had a calling to move to the Hampton Roads area. Roger contacted Parke Atkinson inquiring about an opportunity on Winston’s behalf. Never one to give up the chance to hire an A-Player, Parke immediately met with Winston on his first visit to the area. Winston joined the team, leading their junk services division. Over the course of the next 12 months, he proved himself as a leader of young men and women and was ultimately named the Operations Manager for CHHJ&M Hampton Roads. Winston continues to grow in his role at CHHJ&M. Balancing his duties at the office with supporting his son, Isiayah, in school and sports, this is where he really shines as not only a full time HUNK, but a full-time father.

Winston’s "friends and family tree" of HUNKS stretches across many areas of the country. His dedication to the brand has come full circle now as his twin brother also joined CHHJ two years ago and is following the same trail blazed by Winston. Starting out on the trucks and working his way up through TWO franchise locations, Winston epitomizes hard work, leadership and always looking at the positive side of a situation. Receiving his 10-year jacket this year, he is a true building leaders story.

Christian Pillay | NC – ASHEVILLE

Nominated by Hutson Armstrong

Christian joined our team right out of high school and has had a HUNK of the year-worthy impact on our entire business and culture. This kids’ work ethic, initiative, desire for growth, servant heart, and contagious positive energy suggests potential to take on higher level roles within our organization in upcoming years. When it comes to care, Christian goes above and beyond every day to make sure team members, clients and the overall health of the business are in a better place than he found them/it. A few notable mentions: Christian attended Building Leaders 2023 (showing off his dance moves to HUNK nation during breaks); he was one of four senior captains on our 35-45 HUNKS roster; Christian was one of two HUNKS to take advantage of a 6-week leadership course outside of College HUNK; and he was one of two captains who run our new hire training and attends local evening networking events. The list goes on, but out of respect for "in a few sentences," I'll close with this: Christian bleeds orange and green and has intentions of growing internally with College HUNKS.

Braden Rachael | ID – BOISE

Nominated by Michael Nelson

At 22 years old, Braden was tasked with being the Sales Manager for the College Hunks Boise location. When Cathleen took over the office in July, she made a lot of major changes to the leadership team. We needed to build up our sales team first and foremost, and with Cathleen's background in business she was the perfect person to pick the perfect person. It happened to be the only guy working estimates in the office. Lucky for us Braden was here. It was obvious from the beginning that Braden had what it took to head this up. As he said in the video, he's all about the brand, or "Always Branding." He's a phenomenal representative of the brand and always looks sharp in his uniform, and even wears our shirts about town when he's not working. He's a respectful and diligent person who cares about College Hunks Boise and the entire brand. He's been here for about four years and has worked his way up from wingman to his position as Sales Manager. He's always been a hard worker, as has been attested by his team members. In his role now and in his roles in the past as a Senior Wingman all the way up to Senior Captain, Braden led from the front and by example, always willing to give a helping hand when necessary. He is developing our sales program and is putting it into action by giving estimating training sessions to our captains and soon-to-be senior wingmen and women to build up our team. We've gone from just Braden as a part-time Estimator to a total of three Estimators and two backups, helping to build the leaders of tomorrow. He is always coming up with new and innovative ideas for the sales team and helps the operations managers and manager on duty when needed. He puts a lot of effort into ensuring that not only the sales team is excited, ready to represent the brand and putting in 100%, but giving advice to our team members who are enthusiastic about the job and come to work ready to take over the Treasure Valley as the premier white glove junk hauling and moving service. He's naturally a happy and positive guy and is always getting compliments from our customers – some of whom were ready to cancel the job before he showed up for an in-person estimate. I've been told by two different customers since I've been here that they were ready to cancel until he showed up and listened to their concerns; then went on to help them feel more confident that they had made the right decision to pick College Hunks to help them move after he explained the process to them. He is truly an ambassador for not only College Hunks Boise, but the entire brand. Cathleen and I are very confident that he is the right choice for Hunk of the Year.

Spencer Reed | OR – HAPPY VALLEY

Nominated by Deedee Lane

Spencer Reed is literally CJ and exemplifies the brand! Although we are not the most profitable franchise, we feel richer to have him on our team. Here are a couple of reasons I am nominating him for HUNK of the Year! Spencer has worked for two franchises (the Lombardos). It was our lucky day when he walked into our shop. Knowing what a young franchise we were, Spencer was up to the task to take on a management role right away. He is the one that has created our culture, and it shows. The crew looks up to him for training, guidance, discipline and much more. Spencer hangs out with the crew out of office time, too. His stats are off the charts. As a Senior Captain and Operations Manager and to-date, our GM, Spencer has completed 97.44% and generated $185,032.23 in revenue for our location since he began with us in December 2021! Not to mention all his 5-star Google reviews where he is specifically mentioned. Our state is heavily regulated, and Spencer took it upon himself to dive deep into our tariff and help explain it to our clients, the SLC and others. He is involved in everything from participating in FBC meetings, creating a safety program for our crew with PowerPoint presentations and sharing it with corporate, and most recently, offering his helpful review of our P&Ls. On top of all of this, Spencer helped us find our new location, planned the new design and built out our warehouse (frame, drywall, paint, etc.) within a small amount of time (less than three weeks). He often included the crew to show the guys new carpentry skills that no doubt will help our HUNKS in the future. Spencer is a true leader, not only a D1 college athlete, but he also lives by all four core values every day! This is just a little sample why I think he should be HUNK of the Year.
